The Loud Voice of Voting

You may have forgotten that people of color were actually given the right to vote in 1870 when the 15th Amendment to the Constitution was passed. It says in essence that no one can be denied the right to vote on account of “…race, color, or previous condition of servitude…” Unfortunately, actual practices like literacy tests and poll taxes snatched the vote away until passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
