Despite its remoteness, the dishes are deliciously varied. - By John Jacobs Tucked away on the Patagonian Shelf, about 300 miles east of the South American mainland, are the archipelago Falkland Islands with its tiny population of less than 3,000 people. Most of the residents are of European descent, though there are people of Gibraltarian, French, Spanish and Scandinavian descents also. The small group of islands off the coast of Argentina is a British overseas territory, but many remember them as a source of dispute between Argentina and the United Kingdom over island administration. After the Falkland Islands War ended, Britain gave islanders British citizenship in 1983. Today the population is a delightful mix of multigenerational Falkland Islanders, New Zealanders, Chileans and others, including from the British territory of Saint Helena.
