THE NEW MENTORING PROGRAMS THAT GO FAR BEYOND PAIRS


Traditional 1:1 mentoring programs no longer have the ability to meet today’s workplace needs. Instead, new mentoring programs that offer more mentorship, partnership, and sponsorship opportunities have the potential to carry everyone forward.

It’s hard to find anyone who’ll argue against the value of mentorship. In fact, some 70% of Fortune 500 companies have at least one official mentoring program. Unfortunately, many of these mentoring programs are the traditional, hierarchical senior-junior pairs that are available only to a chosen few. Even worse? Those placed into these stiff, formal mentor programs often find that they fail to live up to the full promises of mentorship, according to a 2019 report from The Harvard Business Review.

What can companies offer instead that fulfills the desire for and promise of mentorship? There are many options! These less traditional programs escape the “one size fits all” paired mentor model to offer participants more dynamic intra-company links and sponsorship throughout their organizational journey.
